Blue Blade — White Wave Engravings
The blade transitions from polished 1060 steel into a deep teal-blue section where white engravings branch along the surface — organic lines following the physics of water flow or electrical discharge. The patterns are dimensional: raised from the blue surface, traceable by fingertip. The Aokami Katana shares this raised-engraving technique with the Lightning, but where the Lightning scatters bolts across storm blue, the Aokami renders flowing waves against ocean depth. Same method, different element.
Ivory Dragon Tsuba
The tsuba is iron-alloy with an ivory-white finish — the only white-finished guard in our catalog. A gold dragon wraps around the disc in full three-dimensional form, its body extending outward from the surface rather than sitting in flat relief. The ivory-and-gold palette inverts the standard dark-guard convention, creating a bright focal point between the dark blade and dark handle. The Aokami Katana uses its tsuba as the design's temperature break — warm gold and cool white between two fields of navy.
Dual Saya — Ocean and Shore
The primary saya is glossy navy lacquer — undecorated, reflective, the color of open water under moonlight. The white secondary saya carries small red-orange accents — koi fish or floral motifs — creating a shore-after-storm register: calm white surface, living color beneath. Navy for depth, white for surface. The Aokami Katana is the eighth dual-saya katana in our catalog, and the only one where the secondary saya introduces a third accent color (red-orange) absent from the primary palette.
Navy Handle — Disciplined Palette
Navy cotton ito over synthetic rayskin with white diamond menuki — the white rayskin visible at each window matches the tsuba's ivory and the white saya. The palette operates on three elements: navy, white, gold. No fourth color, no hedging. The brass habaki with its circular mon crest and beaded border is the only warm metallic accent below the tsuba. The Aokami Katana demonstrates that discipline in color selection creates more impact than variety.
Aokami — Blue Wolf
青神 or 蒼神 (aokami) can read as "blue deity" or "blue wolf" depending on the kanji. The wolf interpretation connects to the blade's predatory precision — white teeth (engravings) against dark fur (blue steel). The deity interpretation connects to the ivory tsuba's divine register — white and gold, shrine colors. The ambiguity is the concept: a blade that shifts between hunter and guardian depending on how you read it.
Display
Ships with a natural wood stand. The warm wood contrasts with the cool navy, making the blue appear deeper. Alternate the navy saya for dramatic displays and the white koi saya for lighter presentations. Pair with the Lightning (storm blue, raised bolts) and the Kessho Sora (crystal splatter) for a blue-katana trio — each a different interpretation of blue-and-white.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are the wave engravings raised?
Yes. White engravings sit above the blue surface in dimensional relief — same technique as the Lightning Katana but with flowing wave patterns instead of branching bolts.
Why is the tsuba white?
Ivory-finished iron-alloy. The white creates a bright focal point between the dark blade and dark handle — the only white-finished guard in our catalog.
Does this include two scabbards?
Yes. Glossy navy primary and white secondary with red-orange koi or floral accents. Eighth dual-saya katana in our catalog.
How does this compare to the Lightning?
Both have blue blades with raised white engravings and dual saya. The Lightning uses a blue tsuba and storm-bolt patterns. The Aokami uses an ivory dragon tsuba and flowing wave patterns. Storm vs ocean.
What is the mon on the habaki?
A circular family crest (mon) engraved on the brass habaki — a traditional identifier connecting the blade to a lineage or clan. The specific design features interlocking curves within a circular frame.

Excellent
Good sword, small issue on arrival
Saya mouth was slightly loose when I got it, fitting tape sorted it. Balance is great though. People at my dojo always ask about it.
Way better than I expected
Hamon is clean, handle wrap tight, saya closes solid. Came in a wooden box. No complaints at all for the price.
Got it as a gift, he was speechless
Bought for my boyfriend who does iaido. He said the fit and finish were legit. I knew nothing about swords, site made it easy to pick.
Nice blade but took 2 weeks to arrive
Damascus looks great. Shipping to Portland took forever and tracking was dead for a week. Quality is there, logistics need work.
Third order, still no complaints
Ordered three times over two years. Always well packed, matches the photos. Support replied same day. Will keep coming back.
