Translucent Blue Tsuba — Light Through the Guard
The tsuba is translucent blue acrylic — not metal. Light passes through it, creating a luminous glow effect that no iron, copper, or brass guard can produce. White cherry blossom engravings sit on the translucent surface, the flowers appearing to float inside the blue. This is the only translucent guard in our entire catalog. The Blue Sakura katana uses it because the guard is part of the color story: blue light flowing from saya through guard through handle, uninterrupted. A metal guard would break that flow. The acrylic continues it.
Cherry Blossom Engravings — Blade and Saya
White sakura (cherry blossom) engravings appear in two places: on the polished 1060 steel blade near the habaki, and along the full length of the azure saya. The blade sakura are delicate — petals and branches rendered in white against polished steel. The saya sakura are bolder — branch motifs cascading across the glossy blue surface in white, visible from across the room. The Blue Sakura katana and the Hana Sakura are our two cherry blossom products — the Hana uses blue engravings on polished steel; the Blue Sakura inverts the palette with white engravings on blue surfaces.
Sakura — Japan's Symbol of Impermanence
Cherry blossoms (sakura 桜) represent mono no aware (物の哀れ) — the bittersweet awareness that all beauty fades. Samurai adopted sakura as their symbol: warriors who lived intensely knowing death could arrive at any moment, finding meaning in brief brilliance rather than long mediocrity. The blue palette adds a specific mood: yozakura (夜桜) — nighttime cherry blossom viewing, when the flowers glow pale under moonlight and lanterns. The Blue Sakura katana captures that twilight viewing experience in steel and lacquer.
Full Blue Palette
Blue tsuba, blue ito, blue saya, blue sageo — the Blue Sakura commits to azure from pommel to scabbard tip. White rayskin diamonds and white sakura engravings provide the only contrast. The palette works because it stays within a single register: no competing reds, no warm brass breaking the cool blue field. New to katana collecting? The Blue Sakura is one of our most visually immediate blades — the cherry blossom theme and all-blue design communicate instantly without requiring background knowledge.
Display
Ships with an ornate black stand with painted dragon panel. The Blue Sakura pairs with the Hana Sakura (same cherry blossom theme, different color approach) for a sakura duo, or with the Blue Blade Katana and Hekinan for a blue-themed trio. Browse our collection for full pairing options. The translucent guard catches light differently throughout the day — position where ambient light can reach the tsuba for maximum effect.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the guard really translucent?
Yes. The tsuba is translucent blue acrylic — light passes through it, creating a glowing effect. It is not metal. This is the only translucent guard in our catalog.
What are the white engravings?
White cherry blossom (sakura) designs appear on both the blade and the saya. On the blade, they are near the habaki. On the saya, they cover the full scabbard length.
Is this Blue Sakura katana sharp?
Yes. The 1060 carbon steel blade is hand-sharpened and functional. Handle with care, store in the saya, and check local regulations before ordering.
How does this compare to the Hana Sakura?
The Hana Sakura has blue sakura engravings on a polished 1060 blade with a standard metal tsuba. The Blue Sakura inverts the palette: white sakura on a blue saya, plus a translucent blue acrylic guard. Same flower, opposite color approach.
What does sakura symbolize?
Sakura (cherry blossoms) represent impermanence, the fleeting nature of life, and the samurai ideal of living fully in each moment. The blue palette references yozakura — nighttime cherry blossom viewing under moonlight.

Excellent
Good sword, small issue on arrival
Saya mouth was slightly loose when I got it, fitting tape sorted it. Balance is great though. People at my dojo always ask about it.
Way better than I expected
Hamon is clean, handle wrap tight, saya closes solid. Came in a wooden box. No complaints at all for the price.
Got it as a gift, he was speechless
Bought for my boyfriend who does iaido. He said the fit and finish were legit. I knew nothing about swords, site made it easy to pick.
Nice blade but took 2 weeks to arrive
Damascus looks great. Shipping to Portland took forever and tracking was dead for a week. Quality is there, logistics need work.
Third order, still no complaints
Ordered three times over two years. Always well packed, matches the photos. Support replied same day. Will keep coming back.
