T10 Blade — Hamon and Shinogi-Zukuri

The blade is T10 tool steel — tungsten-content carbon steel reaching 60–62 HRC. The authentic clay-tempered hamon runs as an aggressive irregular wave along the cutting edge, the boundary between hard edge and softer spine clearly defined without magnification. Shinogi-zukuri geometry creates a visible ridgeline (shinogi) running the blade's length, and the chu-kissaki (medium point) provides a balanced tip profile for both cutting and thrusting. The Emerald Katana keeps its blade uncolored and unadorned — the hamon is the sole visual feature on the steel.

Copper Dragon Tsuba — Full Copper Koshirae

The tsuba is dual-tone copper: dark patinated dragon forms carved through openwork voids, framed by a polished brass outer rim. The dragons move between shadow and light as the viewing angle shifts. Below, the habaki is also copper with honeycomb openwork — the same hexagonal pattern found on our Obsidian and Enbanaito, but in copper rather than brass. The Emerald Katana is one of the few blades in our catalog where both tsuba and habaki are copper, creating a warmer metallic register than the standard brass-on-iron combination.

Emerald Handle — Jade Tone

Emerald green cotton ito wraps over genuine rayskin in the standard diamond pattern — the nodular same texture visible at each window. The green is deep and saturated: jewel-tone emerald, not mint or sage. The Emerald Katana is the only green-handled blade in our catalog. In Japanese tradition, green jade (翡翠/hisui) symbolizes purity, protection, and warrior virtue — the Jōmon people carved jade into ceremonial objects over 5,000 years ago. The sage green sageo shifts slightly lighter than the ito, adding tonal depth within the green family.

Splatter Saya — Mineral Flecks

The saya is dark green-black lacquer scattered with silver-green splatter — mineral flecks caught in obsidian, precious deposits in volcanic glass. The splatter connects the Emerald to the Kessho Sora (white-on-blue) and Starfall (gold-on-turquoise) as the third splatter-finish saya in our catalog, but in a darker register: where those blades scatter light across bright surfaces, this one embeds shimmer into darkness. The overall effect reads as natural stone rather than celestial sky.

Emerald — Gemstone Warrior

The design maps a complete gemstone aesthetic onto traditional katana construction: green ito is the polished stone face, dark splatter saya is the matrix rock, copper fittings are the ore veins running through mineral deposits. The color palette — emerald, copper, dark green, sage — stays entirely within earth-tone territory. No cool blues, no bright accents, no metallic flash outside the warm copper range. The Emerald Katana is geology made into a blade.

Display

Ships with an ornate dragon-peony stand. The green saya against the black-and-gold stand creates a natural-world display — forest meeting palace. Pair with the Shizukesa (cream, earth tones) for an organic duo, or set beside the Amethyst Nebula (purple galaxy) for contrasting gemstone registers.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the hamon authentic?

Yes. Clay-tempered during forging — the irregular wave is produced by differential hardening. Each blade's hamon pattern is unique.

Why copper habaki instead of brass?

Copper creates a warmer, redder tone than brass. Both tsuba and habaki are copper on this blade, creating a unified metallic palette that coordinates with the green ito — copper and emerald is a natural color pairing.

Is the rayskin genuine?

Yes. Genuine rayskin (same) with visible nodular texture at the diamond windows beneath the emerald cotton ito.

What is shinogi-zukuri?

The most common traditional katana blade geometry — featuring a distinct ridgeline (shinogi) running from tang to tip, creating separate cutting and flat surfaces. Chu-kissaki refers to a medium-length point.

How does this compare to the Baioretto?

Both use bold handle colors on Damascus/T10 blades. The Baioretto wraps purple candy-stripe on Damascus with a shishi tsuba. The Emerald wraps solid green on T10 with hamon and copper dragon tsuba. Purple imperial vs green geological.

Good sword, small issue on arrival

Saya mouth was slightly loose when I got it, fitting tape sorted it. Balance is great though. People at my dojo always ask about it.

Way better than I expected

Hamon is clean, handle wrap tight, saya closes solid. Came in a wooden box. No complaints at all for the price.

Bought for my boyfriend who does iaido. He said the fit and finish were legit. I knew nothing about swords, site made it easy to pick.

Nice blade but took 2 weeks to arrive

Damascus looks great. Shipping to Portland took forever and tracking was dead for a week. Quality is there, logistics need work.
