T10 Clay-Tempered Blade with Real Hamon
This is not a cosmetic hamon etched into the steel. The Jin Sakai katana is clay-tempered using the traditional method — clay applied to the spine before quenching, creating differential hardening between the hard cutting edge and the resilient spine. The result is a genuine hamon temper line visible along the blade, unique to each forging. T10 tool steel with tungsten content reaches 60-62 HRC, making this one of the hardest and sharpest functional blades in our catalog. The Sakai double-chevron clan symbol is engraved directly onto the blade near the habaki.
Sapphire Saya — Sakai Clan Heritage
The blue lacquered saya is the defining visual feature of the Jin Sakai sword. A textured blue-black surface evokes feather or wave patterns, with the gold Sakai clan mon (family crest — a circle enclosing a mountain symbol) at the koiguchi. The sculpted silver kojiri at the tip and the navy sageo complete the look. This is the blade Jin carried as a loyal Sakai samurai before the Mongol invasion forced him to abandon bushido. The blue represents the man he was; our Ghost of Tsushima katana in black represents who he became.
Genuine Rayskin & Premium Fittings
The white handle uses genuine rayskin (samegawa) — not synthetic. Real rayskin has a distinctive nodular texture that grips the hand and anchors the cotton ito wrap in place. The iron tsuba is forged in a plain circular form consistent with battlefield-grade samurai swords: no ornament, no distraction. The gold-tone habaki features an elaborate wave pattern in three-dimensional relief, providing the single warm accent against the white handle and dark guard. This is a battle-ready katana — not a wall-hanger prop.
Ghost of Tsushima — Jin Before the Ghost
Ghost of Tsushima (2020, Sucker Punch) follows Jin Sakai during the first Mongol invasion of Japan in 1274. Raised by Lord Shimura to follow the samurai code, Jin is forced to adopt stealth, poison, and deception when bushido alone cannot save Tsushima. This blue Sakai blade represents the honor-bound samurai Jin starts as. The game's central tension lives in which sword Jin draws: the Sakai blade means he fights with honor, the Ghost blade means he fights to win.
Display & Gaming Collection
Ships with a dark wooden stand with red-accented base. Display this Jin Sakai katana alongside our Ghost of Tsushima sword (black saya variant) for the complete before-and-after narrative — blue Sakai honor blade next to black Ghost blade. The genuine clay-tempered hamon, real rayskin, and T10 steel make this Jin Sakai katana a centerpiece rather than a filler piece.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Sakai clan mon on the saya?
The gold circle with mountain symbol is the Sakai family crest (mon). In Ghost of Tsushima, it identifies Jin as the last living member of the Sakai clan, vassals to Lord Shimura of Tsushima.
What is clay tempering?
Clay tempering (tsuchioki) applies clay to the blade's spine before quenching. The exposed edge cools fast and hardens; the clay-covered spine cools slowly and stays flexible. This creates the visible hamon line and gives the blade two distinct hardness zones — hard edge for cutting, resilient spine to absorb shock.
Is this Jin Sakai katana sharp?
Yes. The T10 blade is hand-sharpened and fully functional. Handle with care and store in the saya. Check local regulations before ordering.
What is the difference between this and the other Ghost of Tsushima katana?
This is the Sakai clan sword — Jin's honorable samurai blade with the blue saya and family crest. Our other Ghost of Tsushima katana is the Ghost variant with a darker, more neutral design representing Jin after he abandons strict bushido.
Is the rayskin real?
Yes. This katana uses genuine rayskin (samegawa) on the handle, not synthetic. Real rayskin has a natural nodular texture that improves grip and is considered the traditional standard for quality katana.

Excellent
Good sword, small issue on arrival
Saya mouth was slightly loose when I got it, fitting tape sorted it. Balance is great though. People at my dojo always ask about it.
Way better than I expected
Hamon is clean, handle wrap tight, saya closes solid. Came in a wooden box. No complaints at all for the price.
Got it as a gift, he was speechless
Bought for my boyfriend who does iaido. He said the fit and finish were legit. I knew nothing about swords, site made it easy to pick.
Nice blade but took 2 weeks to arrive
Damascus looks great. Shipping to Portland took forever and tracking was dead for a week. Quality is there, logistics need work.
Third order, still no complaints
Ordered three times over two years. Always well packed, matches the photos. Support replied same day. Will keep coming back.
