T10 Blade — Authentic Hamon
The blade is T10 tool steel — tungsten-content carbon steel reaching 60–62 HRC. The clay-tempered hamon runs as an irregular wave along the cutting edge, the boundary between hard edge and softer spine visible without magnification. The Shizukesa Katana presents its hamon against dark-polished steel, making the temper line the blade's only decoration. No engravings, no colored finishes, no etching — the metallurgy is the ornament.
Dragon Tsuba — Antiqued Openwork
The tsuba is antiqued brass with dragon forms carved in high relief — scales, whiskers, cloud swirls rendered in fine detail across the entire guard surface. A polished gold rim frames the dark patinated disc, creating dual-tone depth. The dragons weave through openwork voids where the metal is cut away entirely, allowing glimpses of the habaki beneath. Below, the brass honeycomb habaki continues the openwork theme — the same hexagonal pattern found across our Obsidian, Earthbreaker, and Enbanaito blades.
Cream Saya — Horn Koiguchi
The saya is cream lacquered wood — no pattern, no emblem, no color accent. The surface reads as aged ivory or bone porcelain depending on the light. A genuine horn koiguchi (scabbard mouth) provides the only dark element: polished natural horn creating a precise transition point between cream wood and steel blade. Horn koiguchi is a traditional high-end component — harder than wood, naturally moisture-resistant, and historically reserved for premium koshirae. The Shizukesa Katana is one of the few blades in our catalog to use genuine horn rather than lacquered wood at this junction.
Brown Handle — Blue Menuki
Dark brown cotton ito — chocolate-toned, earthy — wraps over genuine rayskin. The nodular rayskin texture is visible at the diamond windows, confirming authentic same rather than synthetic substitute. Blue menuki sit beneath the wrapping, their color the only cool tone on the entire Shizukesa Katana. The blue reads as a water accent within an earth-and-cream palette: stillness made visible. The thick dark brown sageo matches the ito exactly, tying handle to scabbard in a continuous earth-tone register.
Shizukesa — Stillness
静けさ (shizukesa) means "stillness" or "silence." In Zen practice, shizukesa is the quality of a mind cleared of distraction — presence without agitation. The Shizukesa Katana translates that concept into material choices: cream where others use black, undecorated saya where others add patterns, earth tones where others reach for metallic flash. The blade achieves luxury through omission rather than accumulation.
Display
Ships with an ornate dragon-peony stand in black lacquer with gold relief. The dark stand grounds the light saya — without that contrast, the cream could float. The Shizukesa photographs best in natural light where the cream reveals subtle warmth variations across its surface. Pair with the White Katana for a light-palette display, or set it against dark blades like the Full Black to amplify the contrast.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the hamon authentic?
Yes. Clay-tempered during forging — the irregular wave is produced by differential hardening, not acid etching. Each hamon pattern is unique to the individual blade.
What is the koiguchi made of?
Genuine horn — natural animal horn shaped and polished to fit the scabbard mouth. Harder and more moisture-resistant than wood, traditionally used on premium Japanese swords.
Why cream instead of white?
Cream has warmth that pure white lacks. It reads as aged ivory or bone — natural, organic — rather than clinical. The warm tone coordinates with the brown handle and brass fittings.
Is the rayskin genuine?
Yes. Genuine rayskin (same) with visible nodular texture at the diamond windows beneath the cotton ito wrapping.
How does T10 compare to Damascus?
T10 is a single-steel blade with tungsten content (60–62 HRC) and authentic hamon. Damascus is folded multi-layer steel with visible grain. T10 prioritizes edge hardness; Damascus prioritizes surface pattern. Different steels, different visual identity.

Excellent
Good sword, small issue on arrival
Saya mouth was slightly loose when I got it, fitting tape sorted it. Balance is great though. People at my dojo always ask about it.
Way better than I expected
Hamon is clean, handle wrap tight, saya closes solid. Came in a wooden box. No complaints at all for the price.
Got it as a gift, he was speechless
Bought for my boyfriend who does iaido. He said the fit and finish were legit. I knew nothing about swords, site made it easy to pick.
Nice blade but took 2 weeks to arrive
Damascus looks great. Shipping to Portland took forever and tracking was dead for a week. Quality is there, logistics need work.
Third order, still no complaints
Ordered three times over two years. Always well packed, matches the photos. Support replied same day. Will keep coming back.
