Tidal Drip Blade — 3D Water on Steel
The blade transitions from polished silver into a deep blue section near the habaki, and white drips flow down from that blue zone — three-dimensional, raised from the surface, individually sculpted with organic irregularity. Some thick, some thin, some merging together, exactly the way real water behaves. The Earthbreaker uses a similar drip technique in blue-gold (tectonic/molten theme); the Nightwater katana uses it in blue-white (tidal/ocean theme). Same sculptural method, different elemental story. The drips cast small shadows under directional light, adding depth no flat engraving can produce.
Chrome Dragon Tsuba & Honeycomb Habaki
The iron-alloy tsuba features chrome-finish dragon and floral motifs in openwork relief — negative space you can see through, positive space catching light from every angle. The brass habaki carries honeycomb geometric cutouts — the same architectural style found on our Obsidian and Earthbreaker. Chrome guard + gold honeycomb habaki creates a warm-cool metallic contrast at the blade-guard junction. The guard shares its DNA with the Earthbreaker and Starfall — chrome dragons across the tidal lineup.
Navy Dragon Saya
The saya is deep navy lacquer — midnight blue, glossy, with a carved dragon that sits subtly on the surface. The dragon is visible on close inspection but does not dominate from display distance. The navy registers between the Kumo's navy (medium blue) and the Deep Sea Fang's navy (near-black). The sageo is navy-blue, and the saya matches the blade's blue section, creating a continuous blue register from scabbard through steel.
Blue-Accented Handle
Black cotton ito wraps the handle with blue and white accent threads woven through — tying the handle to the blade's blue section and the navy saya. The color coordination runs through every component: blue blade, blue accents in the ito, navy saya, navy sageo. The Nightwater katana commits to its water palette at every contact point. Synthetic rayskin beneath the wrapping provides the grip foundation.
Nightwater — Where Ocean Meets Sky
Nightwater is the hour when ocean and sky blur into one — when you cannot tell where water ends and darkness begins. The drips on the blade are tidal movement frozen in steel: water flowing over rock, moonlight cascading down a waterfall. In Japanese folklore, waterfalls where dragons dwell are the thresholds between mortal and divine — the Nightwater katana captures that liminal moment in blue and white.
Display
Ships with a simple wooden stand. The drips need directional lighting — angle a lamp so the raised white patterns cast shadows on the blue beneath. Pair with the Earthbreaker (blue-gold tidal drips — different color register) or the Deep Sea Fang (navy T10 with hamon — premium ocean upgrade). The Nightwater sits in the visual/accessible tier; the Deep Sea Fang sits in the premium/functional tier. Same ocean, different depth.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the drip pattern?
Three-dimensional white drips sculpted in raised relief on the blade, flowing from a blue section near the habaki. Each drip is individually formed — tactile, irregular, organic. Not flat paint.
Is the hamon genuine?
The hamon is artificial — visible on the blade but not produced through traditional clay tempering. For genuine hamon on an ocean-themed blade, see our Deep Sea Fang (T10 with authentic hamon).
Is this Nightwater katana sharp?
Yes. The 1060 carbon steel blade is hand-sharpened and functional. Handle with care, store in the saya, and check local regulations before ordering.
How does this compare to the Earthbreaker?
Both use 3D drip technique. The Earthbreaker is blue-gold (tectonic/molten, dual saya). The Nightwater is blue-white (tidal/ocean, single saya). Same sculptural method, different elemental theme.
What is the honeycomb habaki?
Brass with hexagonal geometric cutouts — the same architectural openwork style found on the Obsidian and Earthbreaker katana.

Excellent
Good sword, small issue on arrival
Saya mouth was slightly loose when I got it, fitting tape sorted it. Balance is great though. People at my dojo always ask about it.
Way better than I expected
Hamon is clean, handle wrap tight, saya closes solid. Came in a wooden box. No complaints at all for the price.
Got it as a gift, he was speechless
Bought for my boyfriend who does iaido. He said the fit and finish were legit. I knew nothing about swords, site made it easy to pick.
Nice blade but took 2 weeks to arrive
Damascus looks great. Shipping to Portland took forever and tracking was dead for a week. Quality is there, logistics need work.
Third order, still no complaints
Ordered three times over two years. Always well packed, matches the photos. Support replied same day. Will keep coming back.
